Margate and the local area

Margate is a lovely seaside town with sandy beaches situated in Kent, on the south-east coast of England. It is a small friendly town with one of the driest and warmest climates in Britain.

The beautiful countryside, famous for its fruit orchards and picturesque villages, gives the region its name ‘The Garden of England’. Margate is 110 kms from London and within easy access of the port of Dover and International Eurostar station of Ashford. Leeds Castle (60 kms), one of the most beautiful castles in England, the historic cathedral city of Canterbury (25 kms) and the medieval town of Sandwich (12 kms) are also all within easy reach.

Margate offers a wide range of shopping and leisure facilities including museums, theatres, a cinema, a nightclub/disco, a casino, a sports centre and a swimming pool. As the school is right in the town centre everything (including the beach) is within a few minutes’ walk. From the school there is a lovely walk around the coast to the pretty fishing village of Broadstairs and the larger seaside town of Ramsgate with its colourful Royal Harbour.
